First Appeared: Psyche appears in the Prologue chapter of the November 1976 issue of Sanrio’s Lyrica Magazine.

Psyche (プシケ Pushike) is the youngest daughter of King Narnassis and has many admirers. She has so many admirers that they turned away from viewing the goddess Venus as the most beautiful. Psyche is also the owner of Unico at the beginning of the manga.

Physical Appearance

In the manga, Psyche wears a long white toga-like dress and wears her brown hair up. In the 1979 short, Psyche has her hair down but still looks quite beautiful. The Scholastic version of Psyche has auburn hair with blue eyes, and she wears a unique romper styled outfit that is mostly white with blue-ish pants.

Personality

Psyche is a sweet young lady but doesn’t seem to have any luck when Venus has negative feelings toward her.

1976-1979In the Lyrica manga version, Psyche appears first in the November 1976 issue. She is a beautiful young woman who is blessed to have Unico as her pet. The jealous goddess Venus learns she has the little unicorn and does her best to get rid of him and make Psyche fall in love with an ugly beast.

1979When the short was played for the Tezuka Fan Club back in 1979, it told a similar story to the original manga where Unico was taken away from Psyche. The pilot is based on the Black Cloud and White Feather chapter, where Unico must save a young girl from the pollution coming from a nearby factory. Psyche appears briefly when Zephyrus is retelling Unico’s story tot he Black Cloud.

2024Psyche appears in the first volume of the new Unico manga series, Unico: Awakening. Psyche is the goddess of souls and meets Unico when the little unicorn is adventuring away from his family. They enjoy each other’s company until Venus has Unico taken away.
