It’s site update time! I won’t have as many updates compared to last month, but when it’s the end of the school year, things get a little hectic (testing, schoolwork, graduations, etc). Since we’re getting closer to Unico: Awakening Kickstarter items being sent out and the official release of the Scholastic/Graphix version, I tried to update the specific areas on the site. After Free Comic Book Day, there was a noticeable jump in people searching and visiting the Unico: Awakening pages looking for more information, so I focused on those areas to help anyone.
Hopefully, I’ll have more updates for you next month! There are a lot of areas I want to focus on, so we’ll see what happens.
- Updated information to the Unico in the Island of Magic Original Soundtrack regarding the characters speaking over the music and a few translations. Many thanks to unicolove for checking the soundtrack for me, as I haven’t had a record player around since the 90s. Haha!
- Added more article translations:
● Ryu Magazine November 1980 Issue 8 Blurb
● Ryu Magazine November 1980 Issue 8 Word from Osamu Tezuka
● Out Magazine February 1981 Issue Blurb
- Updated the Publications page and created sections for each type of book. It was bugging me that everything was all on one page and felt it would help others if sections broke it up. Original comic (Lyrica version), First Grader (Shougaku Ichinensei), Unico: Awakening, children’s books, and more now have their own pages. Under the Information link on the menu, you’ll see Publications, and under Publications you’ll see the separate pages for easy access.
- Unico: Awakening related!
● Added the Kickstarter cover for Unico: Awakening to the Unico: Awakening publication section. I held off on adding it until they officially showed it online.
● Added the Free Comic Book Day publication to the Unico: Awakening by Scholastic’s Graphix Imprint publication section.
● Added a few links to where you can preorder/purchase the first volume online in the Unico: Awakening by Scholastic’s Graphix Imprint publication section.
● Added the YouTube video from Scholastic’s account featuring Samuel Sattin talking about Unico: Awakening on the main Unico: Awakening page. Also added links to where you can purchase the comic, and a review section after the interviews. Now that several people and book reviewers have had the chance to read the first volume before its release, reviews are popping up.
- Added the 1999 appearance of Unico in Columns GB: Tezuka Osamu Characters game in his Character Profile.
- I debated on creating something like this, but finally made a Facebook group for anyone wanting to chat, share, and meet other Unico fans. You can find the group here:
- Finally created the Plush section, which I know several people like seeing. There is still more to add, but I focused on older items to get the page started. Added the 1977 Little Friend – Unico, 1984 Unico, and 2004 Tezuka Osamu Character Stuffed Animals by Sega plushies. If you’ve never seen the 1977 and 1984 ones, definitely check them out because they rarely pop up online.
- Added a 1983 Unico in the Island of Magic badge in the Badges section under Accessories.
- Created the Chiyogami and Origami page in the Stationery section.
- Added the Unico in the Island of Magic VHD in the VHD section. Will add more photos and information soon.
- Added the Let’s Go! Leo Land Unico Mask that’s available at Seibuen Amusement Park in Japan. You can see the mask on the Clothing Accessories page.

※ A quick reminder for those visiting this site. I’m a fan of Osamu Tezuka’s work and focus on the Unico series. I enjoy researching and sharing information, but I won’t upload any full comics, movies, soundtracks, or similar content. You will only find information and news on this site, but never hesitate to contact us if you’re looking for something specific that I may help you with.
